KIPP Texas Recruiter Interview Pre-Work
Thank you again for your interest in KIPP Texas Recruiter position. A part of our hiring process
is a project that is similar to the day-to-day work for the open position. These performance tasks
enable us to observe a candidate’s skills first-hand and enable candidates to better understand
some of the responsibilities of the role. Please respond to the assignments described below.
Activity 1: Stakeholder Email
One of the biggest parts of this role includes management of stakeholders. We often get
requests via email from School Leaders to support with immediate vacancies, like the example
below. Please draft your response to this email detailing what you are doing/will do to support
the school leader with their concerns. You should assume it is mid-November and you have 5
other confirmed vacancies from your schools, including other ELA vacancies at different
schools. You may also separately write any assumptions you made regarding your response
that will help explain what you crafted. Be prepared to chat about your response or role play
this conversation during your interview.
“Hi recruiter,
I hope you are well. I’m writing you to ask if you can post some general ELA positions (KIPP
Texas-Houston). Right now we’re struggling with performance of 2 of our ELA teachers and
we’re deeply concerned about their ability to persist. We’ll need someone with experience and
strong who can come in and finish out the year successfully.
Also—for the SPED role we have open, I’ve reached out to the SpEd candidates you released
with no success (they have not responded). I’ll take a look at the tracker and see if we have any
new/additional candidates because what we have gotten so far (which have only been 2 people)
are just not checking all of the boxes.
Thanks,
Patricia Principal”
Please email your responses to Val 1 business day prior to your interview at

Activity 2: Cultivation Email and Mock Call
While some applicants apply directly to our positions, we spend a lot of time cultivating potential
staff members. Write a mock email to this candidate (resume attached to email) asking if they
are interested in being a teacher for KIPP Texas – Houston and setting up a time to do an
introductory phone conversation. Draft an email to compel the candidate to speak with you on
the phone. In addition, write a second email that you will send 1 week later if the candidate has
not responded.
We will conduct a mock cultivation call where you will engage the candidate to learn more about
them and compel them to apply to KIPP. Read the attached resume and prepare a script for the
cultivation call. Please bring the script with you to your interview.
Please email your responses to Val 1 business day prior to your interview at

Activity 3: Data Analysis and Priority Planning:
Part of our work as Talent Recruiters is making sure we are on track to meet our hiring goals.
Imagine you have a portfolio of two schools, with the following vacancy needs:
School A: 23 Hires
School B: 15 Hires
Our hiring benchmarks are as follows:
25% vacancies filled by 3/1
50% vacancies filled by 4/1
75% vacancies filled by 5/1
95% filled by 6/15
Imagine it is April 2, and School A has hired 5 teachers, and School B has hired 6 teachers.
Create an action plan for how you will spend time over the next 10 weeks to ensure School A
and School B are on track to meet their hiring goal of 95% hired by 6/15. Please email a copy of
your action plan to Valerie.salas@kipptexas.org 1 business day prior to your interview and
make sure you have a copy to reference during your final interview with us.
