Current Issues impacting pupils achievements and wellbeing.

Order Description

Create a resource to support teachers’ professional development in relation to two key current issues. Identify and critically evaluate how these issues impact upon pupil achievement and well-being.

Choose two out of the list of current issues for the assignment:

1. Safeguarding: Recent developments/current policy;

Online safety;

Tackling Prejudice-based Bullying – Homophobia and Biphobia/Relationships Education;

LGBT+ - Gender issues and tackling transphobia;

Race issues;

Disadvantaged Children and the Pupil Premium;

Children’s Mental Health and Well-being/Health Education;

Behaviour;

Teacher Well-being and Workload.

 Part One: 2000 words or equivalent. Create a resource to support teachers’ professional development in relation to two key current issues (there will inevitably be links to other issues within this). The resource should identify and critically evaluate how these issues impact upon pupil achievement and well-being.

Additional Information:

Create a resource, like a leaflet, PPT, Animated Video, supporting teachers professional developments in relation to the 2 Key current issues. (Each resource must address one issue - 2x resource)

Resource must identify and critically evaluate how these issues impact children’s achievements and wellbeing. (Critically evaluate in the resource how to tackle and address these issues & Include wider reading- where do these ideas come from.) Needs to be meaningful, accessible and engaging for busy teachers – Include teachers standards. Include counter arguments.

Part Two: 1000 words. Based on the two issues considered in Part One, write a critical analysis, supported by a range of relevant and recently published wider reading, of your professional strengths and development needs. As part of this, you should consider and identify a range of strategies that you will use to enhance your professional development and understanding of these areas.

Some advice when writing your assignment…

When writing the reflective piece, it may help you to think about your intent, how you will implement this and what you intend the impact to be.

In the reflective piece, it will help you to maintain focus and specificity by referring to key elements of the Teachers’ Standards.

When producing your training resource, ensure that the relevance of the issue in the context of the primary school is clear.

Carefully consider the relevance of wider reading sources based on their publication date. You also need to be critical in your choice of sources – consider credibility and relevance.

Carefully consider how you present your training resource, it should not be an essay spread over a number of PowerPoint slides. Think carefully about what would be successful in engaging an audience of busy primary school teachers.

It is important that you consider counter arguments related to the issues being discussed and you should question the validity of these.

In your training resource, consider the potential impact of the issues being explored on both children’s achievement and well-being.
