Project description
As a forensic psychology professional interviewing traumatized individuals in psycholegal settings, you typically have three goals in mind:
To obtain as much information as possible about what happened
To reduce potential contamination of memory
To minimize the potential harm or distress experienced by the interviewee
“In order to achieve these goals, you must be “open and flexible and tailor [your] approach to each individual interview as there will always be variation in personality, psychological needs, what victims have lived through, what reactions they may experience, and how they cope with their trauma” (Risan, et al., 2020).
There are six primary trauma domains which can impact interviewees and affect the interviewing process: memory problems, communication challenges, sensory processing issues, information processing deficits, dissociation, and empathy deficits/limitations. It is possible that one or more of these domains will be present and a trauma-informed interviewer will be able to identify the interviewee’s trauma-based vulnerabilities and adjust for them in real time.
Review and complete the Trauma Domains Matrix based on your understanding of the domains of trauma.
Select one of the six domains below on which to focus for this Discussion:
Memory problems
Communication challenges
Sensory processing issues
Information processing deficits
Dissociation*******************************Is the one I am going with
Empathy deficits/limitations
Locate one recent (within the past 5 years), peer reviewed article that addresses the domain you selected.
Consider how trauma can impact and cause issues in forensic psychological settings. Due the 8/5
In your own words, define trauma-informed interviewing and explain why it is important.
State and describe the domain you selected and explain how the article you selected relates to it.
In the context of trauma, explain the ways in which the domain you selected can impact interviewees and affect the interviewing process.
Describe the roles and responsibilities of trauma-informed interviewers and how they can adjust for their interviewees’ trauma-based vulnerabilities.
Note: Your posts should be substantial (350 words minimum), supported with scholarly evidence from your research and/or the Learning Resources, and properly cited using APA Style. Personal anecdotes are acceptable as part of a meaningful post but cannot stand alone as the entire post.
