Theologizing Violence

Write a 3-5 page reflection paper that critically engages the material read and the movie watched.

The book is War and the America Difference by Stanley Hauerwas and the movie is Military Violence.

Reflection paper should do three things:

1) Identify one prominent issue or theme from the reading and describe how it supports the main thesis.

The thesis statement is: I do not want to convince Christians to work for the abolition of war, but rather I want us to live recognizing that in the cross of Christ war has already been abolished. So I am not asking Christians to work to create a world free of war. The world has already been saved from war. The question is how Christians can and should live in a world of war as a people who believe that war has been abolished.

2) Highlight examples of how an issue from the book was illustrated or illumined by the film;

3) Offer a brief assessment of the strength or weakness of the argument being made by the author. The critical reflection papers are not book reports and should not include a summary of the book. At the same time, including properly cited quotes from the books are acceptable and expected when relevant.
