Module 5 Discussion: Mindfulness Practice

In this discussion, please write several short paragraphs detailing your own experience using the 5-minute meditation practice for beginners or one ten-minute model for folks with more mindfulness experience. Before you write, practice using the 5-minute practice session on your own at least twice. Before you practice you will need to find a quiet space. Please plan ahead. It may be helpful to use the same meditation video each time you practice. View each video link before you do your practice sessions so you can pick the one that suits you best.
You may find it hard to use the practice the first time. Having trouble the first time you try to clear your mind is normal. Clearing your mind and concentrating on your breath should be hard the first time you try it, so please try not to focus on the thoughts that come and go, just notice your thoughts and release them. Remember that mindfulness engagement is called a practice. In order to have the benefits, you must practice doing it. Don't be discouraged. If you need to respond to this discussion after you've completed the mindfulness sessions, you may want to take quick notes before and after each session to note how you were feeling during your sessions.
Use one of these 5-minute beginner sessions:

I found a lot of much longer sessions by Native American and Indigenous folks out there, but not many that allowed beginner practice.
When you write about this experience please answer this question: Now that you've tried mindfulness exercises, discuss how having a daily mindfulness practice can help the practitioner or the client accept their own life experiences and those of others without judgment. Also, include why practicing a non-judgmental attitude is important for working with others. Please read Napoli and Bonifas (2013) and cite that source whenever you paraphrase or use a direct quote.
The same writing requirements apply here. Use at least 150 words to discuss your experiences; I am not requiring a response to a classmate here. Make sure that you are referencing the assigned readings for this module (author and date) within the text of your reply. Use page numbers for exact quotes.
