CONTEXTUAL AND TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

Each student is assigned one of the following video.  Only complete one textual/content analysis of the video assigned to you. Please look up the official video online on your own time.

Assigned song is:  Champions by NLE Choppa

*Please treat these like formal analyses of the topics at hand rather than a recitation of your opinion on the topic. This means all responses should be written using the third person (he, she, it, and they) and be substantive. 

Using both an analysis of the lyrics and visual interpretation, use your assigned video to discuss the following topics:

-How has the culture of hiphop become hyper commercialized within sport?

-What critique does this video provide on how commercialized hiphop culture has influenced the sport experience since its origins?

-How does the video and lyriqs illustrate the intersections of sport and hiphop while celebrating the GRIT of both cultures and the sacrifices within the hiphop and sport cultures made by today’s artists and athletes?

Note: Each video will vary with the questions above based on the content.

2-3 Pages. 2 FULL pages in length-> excluding title pg, 2 lines of text on pg. 2 of body

APA Guidelines

5 APA In-text Citations (Sources: 3 Text References, 1 Assigned Film, 1 Additional Academic Source)

The score for the paper will be a possible 5/15 in which the five represents the possible total points for grammar, and the 10 points represent the possible score for content. A paper must be 2 pages, equaling 20 inches of type with three references as noted on prompt for paper, each page is worth 5 points for content.

Reference Marks:

R# - you can be docked up to 1 full point for not enough references. Each lost of reference is -.33 points

RC - you will be docked 1 full point for no reference page.

RF - Formatting is equal to 1 full point - you will loss .1 for every error, in citations and reference page. 

PL - Page length you will lose 1 points for every loss of 2 inches.

Text – If text must be cited, a loss of .5 for that specific reference.

Inclass – If class must be cited, a loss of .5 for that specific reference

Online – If online must be cited, a loss of .5 for that specific reference.
