Read Chapters #3 and #6 in Phillips and Pitman's An Introduction to Community Development ; "About the Processes of Cooperative Community Improvement Activities" (Institute of Adult Education, 1952); "An introduction to 'Building Communities from the Inside Out' (Kretzmann and McKnight, 1993); “Regenerating Community” (McKnight, 2003); “ Communities in Control” (Russell, 2009); “Asset-Based Community Development: The Essentials”(McKnight, 2017); "The Four Essential Elements of an Asset-Based Community Development Process." (McKnight, 2018); and “What is Asset Based Community Development (ABCD).” (ABCD Institute, n.d.). In the "Preface" to their text, Asset Building & Community Development, Green and Haines ask, "Can community residents work together to improve their quality of life?" (p. vi). Taking this question as a starting point, and using the assigned readings for this week and last week as a foundation, and what you know (or think you know) about community development up to this point, create an explanatory ESSAY of 500 Words or more about "The Role of Assets in Community Development." enhance your ESSAY with examples, images, and illustrations that you may be able to find using a simple internet search.
