Discussion Topic
Response posts:
· Includes at least two substantive responses that each include at least 1 scholarly, professional, or textbook reference with accompanying in-text-citation to support any paraphrased, summarized, or quoted material. While we prefer not to assign word counts to posts, as a suggested best practice, at least two responses should be at least 200 words.
For this week’s DQ, we will converse about scholarly writing, which is critical to those in the dissertation program. With that background, answer the following questions:
· First, what are THE most important aspects of composing a scholarly, well-researched paper? (As an example, one aspect may be to include 1-3 citations per page of the paper, and then detail why this aspect is important).
· Second, what is the most challenging aspect of composing a scholarly, well-researched paper, and what specific strategy would you follow to address this challenge? (As an example, maybe determining the thesis is the most challenging aspect, and you would follow certain strategies to write a better thesis).
· Finally, compose a 3-paragraph essay on any topic that is of interest to you. The first paragraph should be an introduction, the second should be the main idea of the paper with a solid thesis, and the third should be a conclusion. Include at least one reference. This simple, brief essay can serve as a template for your future papers and offers the instructor and your fellow students an opportunity to offer suggestions on how best to compose these papers in the future.
EXAMPLE BELOW
Initial Post
The most important aspect of composing a scholarly, well-researched paper is to include at least 1 to 3 references per page. Why? Because it shows you’ve done your homework and that your ideas are backed by experts. It also builds trust with your readers, as they can check your sources and dig deeper if they want. Think of it as showing your work to prove you’re not just making things up. Another key element is the introduction. Your introduction should grab your reader’s attention right away and explain what your paper is about. It’s like giving a quick preview of what’s coming. A clear introduction helps readers follow your arguments and keeps them interested.
On the other hand, the most challenging aspect of composing a scholarly, well-researched paper is figuring out the thesis statement, which is the core argument of your paper. The thesis needs to be clear, focused, and strong. Here’s how to make that easier:
1. Do your research: Start by reading various articles, reports, or books to get a broad understanding of your topic. This helps you spot what’s missing in current research or what new angle you can take.
2. Outline your ideas: Write down what you know and organize your thoughts. This will help you see connections between different points and fine-tune your argument.
3. Ask for feedback: Share your thesis with someone like a friend, professor, or colleague. They might spot areas you can improve or give you fresh ideas.

Topic: Improving Oil and Gas Site Workers' Safety Behavior Through Visual Communication: A Case Study of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.
Introduction
Nigeria’s oil and gas industry plays a huge role in the country’s economy, but it’s also a dangerous place to work. Accidents happen often because workers face risks every day on the job. Making sure workers follow safety rules is one way to cut down on accidents. A practical way to improve safety is by using visual communication tools, things like signs, posters, and videos that explain safety protocols in a way that’s easy to understand.
Main Idea and Thesis
Using visual communication tools can help oil and gas workers stay safe. Signs and posters with simple messages can quickly show workers what to do (or not do) in dangerous situations. A case study from Nigeria shows that companies that use these tools see fewer accidents. So, this paper argues that visual communication is a key method for improving safety behavior in Nigerian oil and gas sites.
Conclusion
In summary, visual communication tools are essential for making workplaces safer. They provide workers with easy-to-understand safety instructions and help reduce risks. As the oil and gas industry in Nigeria grows, it’s important to keep improving safety strategies to protect workers. Future research should look at other ways visual tools can improve safety in different industries.
