Project description

Need a response to this paragraph

If we get a whole view of someone’s abuse history, it often looks different for everyone. Someone could be biologically predisposed to alcohol abuse and yet never take a single drink in their life because of the psychological effects it had on them growing up with an alcoholic father and knowing the risk they would be taking. On the other hand, someone predisposed to this could feel as though their path is already chosen for them. Our genes and the structure of our DNA can sometimes make us more vulnerable to certain diseases, including alcoholism and drug abuse (Mayo Clinic, 2022). Mind-body connection and somatic experiences of the individual will also greatly affect the individual. When taking a history, it is important to investigate the emotional and psychological underpinnings of the substance use. This can be the root of the problem and unless we are addressing this, as well, it does not give a full picture of the story, nor does it allow us to address this in treatment. Loss of a job, the death of a loved one, divorce or more internal triggers such as a depression, trauma or a lack of self-esteem can initiate drug or alcohol use (Mayo Clinic, 2022). The social aspects of someone’s life can contribute greatly to the extent and severity of their addiction. Understanding the individuals support system will give clarity into the current dynamics and assess the external motivators for change. If the person has a solid support system and this system wants the individual to stop using and cares about this person’s health, that looks very different than no having family or friends other than the people that the individual is using drugs or alcohol with. If the individual is employed or has connections within the community, these can be stability factors and should be utilized within the treatment process.
