 Each individual is unique, shaped by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The application of eugenics can introduce personal bias, leading to decisions that are influenced by subjective beliefs rather than objective evidence. It undermines the intrinsic value of each individual life by suggesting that some lives are more valuable than others based on genetic traits. It is essential to protect “individual human rights, reproductive and otherwise, when establishing biomedical policies and practices,” (Kevles, 2011, p.7). Society does have an obligation to identify and eliminate the risk of eugenics. This obligation stems from the need to protect ethical standards, promote social equity, and uphold moral principles. The legacy of eugenics serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of allowing subjective beliefs to influence genetic policies. Instead, the focus should be on creating a society that values and respects the diversity of all its members, ensuring that every individual could thrive, regardless of their genetic makeup.
