Certain procedures are usually involved when conducting suicide-related forensic assessments. The first of these procedures is a screening, which is usually conducted to assess the risk of suicide. During the screening, one is evaluated for several factors that may put them at risk or increase their chances of committing suicide. These factors include having a history of mental illness, substance abuse, suicide ideation, and previous suicide attempts. One may even be examined for various social stressors that are likely to increase their chances of suicide or suicide ideation. Based on the risk factors present, one is then categorized as having a low, moderate, or high risk level. However, standardized measures such as the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale are often used during screening (National Commission on Correctional Health Care, 2019). The screening is also generally a one-time event that is conducted during intake into a correctional facility. Need a response with references
