Article: Latina/o Adolescents in an Emerging Immigrant Community: A Qualitative Exploration of their Future Goals
Evaluate the research questions and hypotheses.
Qualitative research collects and analyzes non-numerical data that generally addresses the question “How?” or “Why?” to evaluate experiences or attitudes (McLeod, 2025). In Gonzalez et al.’s (2012) article, they explore the goals of Latin students in emerging immigrant communities and some of the roadblocks they may face. Their research identified that the problem is that there is a disparity between educational and employment aspirations and the actual outcome. The purpose of their research was to engage with the students of immigrant families to determine why they think there is a discrepancy between their ambitions and actual outcomes. Gonzalez et al.’s (2012) research question – how do children of Latin immigrants define their life goals and the barriers that may impede those goals? – is a logical extension of the problem and the best way to address the problem. They posited that relying on the students’ perspective via interviews was the most effective method to collect data to address their research question. Need a response and references
