In the scenario with Scott and Andrea, there appears to be several issues. To begin with, the very first episode shows Scott's lawyer/friend meeting with him at the jail upon his release and having a conversation with him (Walden University, 2017). Scott thanks him for bailing him out, but his friend/lawyer did not bail him out; he was released because Andrea did not press charges again (Walden University, 2017). One thing that is wrong so far is that he has been arrested three times now, and the last arrest was due to a neighbor's concern and a call to the police. The wrong that is happening so far is serious because of repeated domestic violence.
Another problem is that Scott now has access to a weapon, which increases the potential for danger within the household. Scott, while talking with his lawyer/friend, admits to drinking heavily during his arguments with Andrea and tries to justify his violence. On the same note, Scott dismisses choking Andrea by making the statement, "trying to take my beer," and mocks the treatment (Walden University, 2017).
The behavioral risk indicators that other individuals could notice are that Andrea's neck is still red from being choked. When Andrea's friend is visiting, Andrea begins to make Scott's favorite meal and begins avoiding confrontation to keep the peace and keep him calm. Andrea is also trying to minimize the danger by downplaying the seriousness of the violence and attempting to maintain peace to protect her children (Walden University, 2017). To an outsider such as Maya, there is a combination of behaviors that indicate an abusive and escalating situation. The visible injuries, control over finances, repeated police involvement, and sudden presence of a firearm are all behavioral risk indicators (Walden University, 2017).
