Research Question
Is race associated with perceived racial discrimination among respondents in the General Social Survey dataset?
Null Hypothesis
There is no association between race and perceived racial discrimination. Any observed differences in reported discrimination across racial groups are due to chance.
Research Design
This study employed a non-experimental, cross-sectional design using secondary data from the General Social Survey. The analysis focused on bivariate relationships between categorical variables, consistent with the procedures outlined by Frankfort-Nachmias et al. (2020).
Variables and Measurement
Independent Variable: Race of Respondent (White, Black, Other)
Dependent Variable: Respondent Feels Discriminated Because of Race (Yes/No). Both variables are nominal and were analyzed using a Chi-Square test of independence, which is appropriate for examining associations between categorical variables (Wagner, 2020, Chapter 7).
Mean of Age
To verify the dataset version, the mean age of respondents was calculated. The average age was 47.10 years (SD = 16.89, N = 600), confirming the dataset's demographic consistency.
