In 2024, Kansas City, Missouri's population was estimated at 516,032 people. 51.6% of the population was female with 57.8% of the total population being White, 25.8% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian and Alaska Native, 2.7% Asian, 0.3% Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and 12.3% Hispanic or Latino (United States Census Bureau, n.d.). When analyzing the violent crime statistics for Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO), I learned that there were four categories of violent crime measured in the UCR Publications for this area; aggravated assault, homicide, rape, and robbery. I reviewed the data from January 2024 through December 2024.
The prevalence for aggravated assault in 2024 was 79.39 per 100,000 people. Of those aggravated assaults, offenders were primarily male (2,855) and Black (2,527). 1,109 offenders were White, 634 were no specified, 341 were unknown, and 29 were Asian. 1,019 reported aggravated assaults were female offenders. Of the victims, 3,292 were male and 2,942 were female. Race of the victims were 3,411 Black, 2,639 White, 116 unknown, 48 Asian, and 25 American Indian or Alaska Native (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.).
The prevalence for homicide in KCMO in 2024 was 0.67/100,000 people. Of the offenders, 125 were male and 16 female. Of the victims, 122 were male and 20 female. The offender race was made up of 117 Black, 27 not specified, 22 White, and 2 unknown. The victim race was made up on 103 Black, 37 White, and 2 Unknown (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.).
The prevalence for rape in KCMO in 2024 was 4.41 per 100,000 people. There were 366 male offenders and 25 female offenders. 44 males and 359 females made up the gender of victims during this time. Offender race included 210 Black, 147 White, 36 not specified, 32 unknown, and 2 American Indian or Alaska Native. The victims were White (233), Black (159), unknown (9) American Indian or Alaska native (1), and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander (1) (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.).
The prevalence for robbery in KCMO in 2024 was 18.54 per 100,000 people. Offenders were made up of 1,745 males and 354 females. Race of the offenders included Black (1,589), White (392), unknown (392), not specified (75), and Asian (5). The victims included 1,092 males and 561 females. The races of victims were White (941), Black (606), not specified (291), American Indian or Alaska Native (46), and unknown (35) (Federal Bureau of Investigations, n.d.)
