Project description
Respond to at to your colleagues’ posts by explaining if you agree or disagree with their positions and why.
Note: Your responses to colleagues should be substantial (250 words minimum), supported with scholarly evidence from your research and/or the Learning Resources, and properly cited using APA Style. Personal anecdotes are acceptable as part of a meaningful response but cannot stand alone as a response. Your responses should enrich the initial post by supporting and/or adding a fresh viewpoint and be constructive, enhancing the learning experience for all students.
Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights that you have gained because of your colleagues’ comments.
Clinical and forensic interviews are foundational methods of information gathering within psychology; however, they differ significantly in purpose, scope, and application. A clinical interview is primarily designed to assess, diagnose, and understand an individual's psychological functioning while establishing a therapeutic relationship. The goals of a clinical interview include obtaining information about symptoms, personal history, mental status, and psychosocial functioning to facilitate diagnosis, treatment planning, and interview (Logan, 2018). Clinical interviewing emphasizes empathy, rapport building, and collaboration between the clinician and client to support treatment outcomes and ongoing care (Logan, 2018).
In contrast, the forensic interview is conducted to gather factual and legally defensible information for investigative or legal purposes. The objective is not treatment but rather the collection of accurate information that can withstand judicial scrutiny. Forensic interviews are structured to minimize bias and suggestibility while maximizing the reliability of information obtained from victims, witnesses, or suspects (Newlin et al., 2015). These interviews frequently occur in criminal justice, child protection, or legal settings and highlight neutrality, objectivity, and evidence-based information gathering (Logan, 2018). Research indicates that forensic interviewers rely heavily on open-ended questions and avoid leading or suggestive techniques to preserve the integrity of testimony (Dickinson et., 2015).
