Project description

Respond to colleagues’ posts by explaining if you agree or disagree with their positions and why. Note: Your responses to colleagues should be substantial (250 words minimum), supported with scholarly evidence from your research and/or the Learning Resources, and properly cited using APA Style. Personal anecdotes are acceptable as part of a meaningful response but cannot stand alone as a response. Your responses should enrich the initial post by supporting and/or adding a fresh viewpoint and be constructive, enhancing the learning experience for all students. Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights that you have gained because of your colleagues’ comments. Interviews are the most important variable of forensic psychology. With strong interview skills, we can gather a lot of information that is necessary to either treat a client or help determine what happened in a case. Clinical and forensic interviews are important methods used by mental health and legal professionals to gather information. According to The Initial Clinical Interview: Goals, Process, and Procedures (Alexander Street, n.d.), the primary goal of a clinical interview is to establish rapport, collect information about the client's psychological functioning, identify presenting concerns, and develop an effective treatment plan. Clinical interviews are designed to help practitioners understand an individual's thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and life experiences while creating a supportive environment that encourages open communication. With a forensic interview, the primary goal is to gather accurate, objective, and legally relevant information that may be used in investigations or court proceedings. Forensic interviews are commonly conducted with victims, witnesses, suspects, or children involved in abuse investigations. Unlike clinical interviews, which would focus more on emotions and symptoms, the interviewer's objective during a forensic interview is to gather factual information while minimizing suggestibility and maintaining neutrality (Children's Bureau, 2023). The forensic interview process focuses on evidence collection rather than treatment or therapeutic intervention (Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI], n.d.). Although different, there are some similarities between the two types of interviews. Both interviews require strong communication skills, active listening, rapport building, and careful questioning techniques. Both forensic and clinical interviews have to make sure that the interviewee is comfortable and they are not feeling judged or scolded. Both types of interviews rely on ethical standards and professional competence (Logan, 2018).
