Project description
Respond to two or more of your peer’s initial discussion posts. By day also respond to those who responded to your posts in the discussion board. A posttest-only control group design is a quantitative experimental design in which researchers randomly assign participants to either an experimental group or a control group and then measure the outcome only after the intervention occurs. In this design, the experimental group receives the treatment or intervention, while the control group does not, and both groups complete the same posttest measure (Choueiry, 2021; Walden University Office of Research and Doctoral Studies, n.d.). Researchers most appropriately use this design when a pretest could influence participants’ later responses, increase awareness of the study’s purpose, or create a testing effect. For example, if researchers wanted to test whether sexual harassment prevention training improved students’ reporting awareness, a pretest might alert students to the expected outcome before the training begins. Therefore, the posttest-only structure can help reduce pretest sensitization while still allowing researchers to compare outcomes between groups.
Key Assumptions
The main assumption of the posttest-only control group design is that random assignment creates groups that are reasonably equivalent before the intervention begins. Because the design does not include a pretest, researchers cannot directly compare baseline scores; instead, they rely on random assignments to reduce selection bias and ensure group comparability (Choueiry, 2021). The design also assumes that the posttest measure is valid, reliable, and administered consistently across both groups. In addition, researchers must assume that the intervention is delivered as planned and that the control group does not receive unintended exposure to the treatment. Without these conditions, the researcher may have difficulty determining whether posttest differences reflect the intervention or another factor.
